Festival at the Oaks

 

Twin Oaks and Hidden Oaks Middle Schools hosted the first-annual “Festival at the Oaks” Middle School Solo/Ensemble Contest Invitational on April 13 at Twin Oaks Middle School.  Area students were given the opportunity to be evaluated by a music education professional as well as attend instrument-specific and other fun workshops, including: effective practice, jazz improvisation, and help with auditioning.  Students also got to play a “name that tune” live action game show...and these are just the “extras” for the day!  Participants in the festival received a great evaluation experience, a certificate for their achievement, and took in a performance by the MS Jazz Bands. The day concluded with an achievement recognition ceremony in the Twin Oaks auditorium.   

This event was the first of its kind in the Twin Cities, with solo/small ensemble competition open to all schools in the area.  We hope to grow this tradition and make Prior Lake the center of excellence in music education in Minnesota.

This event was fully endorsed by the Prior Lake-Savage Middle School Band Program and Directors, and is sponsored by the Middle Schools Band Boosters of Prior Lake & Savage, member organization of the Patrons of the Arts and Activities, ISD 719.
