Middle School Ski Club (Cancelled TODAY)

Buck Hill will be closed (Monday, December 15th) due to the rain.  Therefore, elementary & middle school ski club is cancelled.  We will reschedule on February 9th.

MS Ski Club will begin on Jan. 5th (first day back from break!) . . . Registration is still open, anyone can join up until Jan. 4th.

Middle School Ski Club Mondays

First Ski Club Date: 12/15/14 (This Monday)  

Drop off all skis/snowboards in TOMS lower level lot at trailers between 6:45 – 7:15AM

Boots and warm clothes can be stored in the buildings:
TOMS (near PE Office) and HOMS (near Main Office)

All lift tickets and rental forms will be distributed afterschool near the “gear” storage rooms in each building

Grab lift tickets/rental forms, “warm gear”, backpack and head to bus ASAP (there may be 3 students to a seat on bus)

Ski Club bus locations:     
TOMS: lower level lot near cafeteria
HOMS: HO front doors of building
Buses leave at 2:30pm (Please be on time)


7th Grade Washington DC Trip "UPDATE"

Parents of seventh-grade students interested in sending your students on the Washington DC trip next year in eighth-grade.

We were informed last night at parent-teacher conference that some of you received messages from World Strides indicating that the trip was full and that your student would be placed on a wait-list. That mix-up has been taking care of and  you should now be able to register for next year’s trip at wwww.worldstridesdiscovernow.org.  The Prior Lake ID number for registration is 112825. Sorry for any confusion or frustrations this may have caused you and your family.

We have currently filled three buses and are well on are our way to filling  a fourth bus for touring around DC. The students excitement for next year’s trip is amazing. 

Registration deadline is Monday December 15th 2014.

Today 7th Grade students enjoyed presentation 1 of two this year from The UMN Raptor Center.  They got an up close opportunity to study raptor adaptations and behaviors.  Students will be tracking and graphing data through out the school year of the bald eagles lead levels in their blood that come into the Raptor Center and study the effects lead has on the birds system

In appreciation for the extra time that TOMS teachers and staff put in during conferences, we are planning a night of holiday treats for Thurs. Dec. 11th.  Please consider bringing cookies, brownies, etc. to make their night extra sweet.  The teachers and staff will be very grateful!
You can drop off your items in the office before 2:00 pm on Dec. 11th and pick up any containers after 7:00 pm or on Friday.  If at all possible, please use disposable containers to help minimize clean-up.

Washington DC Trip 2015

Parents of seventh-grade students interested in intending next year’s Washington DC trip. Just a reminder there will be an optional parent meeting Monday, November 17th at 6:30 in the Twin Oaks auditorium.  This meeting is designed to give parents an opportunity to hear about and ask questions about the upcoming trip to Washington DC. The trip is over MEA break October 15th-18th 2015. We are anticipating that the meeting will last about 30 minutes. WE Day 2014

TOMS students gathered for a group photo Wednesday at the Xcel Energy Center. Students were part of WE Day Minnesota, which drew more than 18,000 participants. November 12th has been proclaimed WE Day Minnesota by Gov. Mark Dayton in honor of the volunteers!

Infinite Campus Quarter 2 Schedules

To prepare for Tuesday morning, please print a copy of Quarter 2 schedule or have your child write it in his/her assignment notebook (remember room #’s!).
To print: Log into Infinite Campus
Select “Reports” from the menu on the left side and then click on “Student Schedules”.  Do not print from the Schedule view.
Schedules for 6th grade students should generally remain the same except for one class.
Schedules for 7th grade students are based on semesters so no changes have been made.
Schedules for 8th grade students are based on quarters and student schedules may look very different from Q1.  Students should have the same teachers for English, Science, Global Studies and Math, although it can be a different period.
Please report any errors to your Guidance Counselor in the Guidance Office.
Quarter 1 Grades:
Infinite Campus course grades and assignments will be closed from viewing by parents and students starting at 6:30am on November 10th, so that teachers can finalize grades.  Finalized Quarter 1 grades will be opened for viewing on Friday, November 14th.

7th and 8th graders can join the PLHS Team . . . no experience necessary.  Practices begin on Monday, Nov. 10th at 3:30pm at the high school.  MS students can ride the Activities Bus to PLHS at 2:40pm (pick up at TO).  Contact Coach Panzer at kwpanzer@frontiernet.net for more info.

Winter – Middle School Strength Team
The Laker Strength & Conditioning program is offered to all Prior Lake athletes in grades 7 and 8.  The goal of our Strength & Conditioning Program is to provide athletes the best opportunity to improve their athletic performance in the off-season.  Athletes will train safely and consistently,and be motivated by their teammates as well as members from the Laker Coaching Staff.
Days:  Tuesdays and Thursdays

TOMS Box Tops Contest Winner!

Thanks to all the classes that participated in this semester's Box Tops for Education contest.  Over 6000 tops were sent in.  This equals over $600 for PACT projects. 

The ice cream party winning primetime class is Mrs. Wagner's.  One student brought in over 450 Tops!  Thanks to those classes that trimmed the Tops (they received an extra 100 points towards the prize).

          Favorite part of teaching: Creating a safe, inviting, and structured environment for students where every student is set up with the tools to be successful in learning math. I also love creating a positive relationship with students where they are comfortable coming to my class and are excited to learn.

TOMS Food Drive

We are so proud of the LAKER PRIDE that our Twin Oaks students and families demonstrated during our internal food drive!  We had an incredible amount of generous food donations that will help many Twin Oaks students in need.  Our grand total was 2012.00 and our winning grade was 6th with 816 donated items.  7th and 8th followed closely with 7th at 781 and 8th grade at 451.  Thank you all for your support and generosity! Extended Day Program

Extended Day is a homework support program for Twin Oaks Middle School students. Our program runs on Tuesday’s and Thursday’s from 2:20-3:20 in a small group format and is free to our students.

Middle School Choir


MN Middle Honor Choir Info.
CONGRATULATIONS to HOMS students Olivia Wagner, Madison Dorival, Rachel Kapsch, Raj Punyamurthula and to TOMS Emily Lein and Tori Gens as they were selected to participate in the 2014 7th and 8th Grade Girls and Boys MN Middle School Honors Choir!  This is an ALL-STATE Honors Choir made up of students from all over Minnesota.  They were selected to be part of a choir of approximately 150 girls and 130 boys  and were 6 of over 880 students who auditioned!  I know they'll represent our school and our program well!  Congratulations!

Choir Concert information
The first Choir concert of the year is fast approaching.  The 6th grade Choir Concert is Monday, Dec. 8 at 7:00pm. Concert location is at TOMS in Jerabek Hall (big gym)  Students will meet at 6:30 in assigned rooms at TOMS.
The 7th and 8th grade Concert is Tuesday Dec. 9 at 7:00pm at TOMS in Jerabek Hall (big gym).  Students will meet at 6:30 in assigned rooms at TOMS.
All students are to be in concert attire.  Ask your child to tell you what that is!! They were quizzed on the handbook and should be able to inform you, but just in case.  All guys in black dress pants, white long sleeve shirt, dark color tie, black shoes and belt.  All girls are in white shirt (not sleeveless), black knee length or longer skirt OR black dress pants.  NO leggings or yoga pants. Shoes should not be over a couple inches high and no flip flops.

What? coats, hats, gloves, mitten, scarves, snow pants, and boots on a first come, first serve basis. (Last year, they ran out of items to give out-get there early!)

St. John's Thanksgiving meal
What? A free thanksgiving meal for those in need in the community.  Where/When? St. John's in Chaska on Thursday, November 27th from 11:30am-1:00pm

Salvation Army Coats for Kids
Who? Families with children ages 0-17 living in the 10-county metro area.   When? Thursday October 30th starting at 10:00am.
What? Coats that will be distributed based on availability.    Where? Eagan, MN Salvation Army.
*The adult picking up coats must bring his/her picture ID, current piece of mail, and form of ID for each child (medical card, social security card, birth certificate, etc.)

What? All types of free services including Medical, Dental, Employment assistance, education assistance, haircuts, food support, ID cards, drivers licenses, birth certificates, veteran services, legal services.

Our new Infinite Campus grade book system does have a mobile app that you can download for free.  It’s called Campus Portal.  Directions are attached.  It does display grade book information differently than the view from desktop computers but it is a convenient way to stay informed of your child’s progress.  Thank you!

Kids Voting 2014!

Did you hear Kids Voting is back on November 4th?

Don’t forget to encourage your child to vote between 4:00-8:00 pm!  All of our local precincts will be open for Kids Voting on November 4th. A flyer with more info is attached. You can find more helpful links and resources at www.kidsvotingMN.org.

Any 7th - 12th grade student interested in joining the PLHS Nordic Ski racing team should attend an Informational Meeting on Tuesday, October 28 at 3:15pm in the lecture hall at PLHS.

There is an Activities shuttle bus that will bring HO and TO students from the lower level of TOMS to PLHS at 2:45PM.

OCTOBER IS HUNGER AWARENESS MONTH

October is hunger awareness month, and as a way to support our Twin Oaks students that struggle with consistent meals, we are hosting an in-school food drive.  We will begin collections on October 27th and end on November 4th.  We are asking for specific items from those that would like to participate:
     1.     Oatmeal (favorite amongst kids is maple and brown sugar)
     2.     Boxed snack items (Things in the snack isle that would allow us fill a cup or bowl and give that to a        student. Ex: Cheeze-its, Teddy grahams) 
     3.     Granola bars
     4.     Individual bag snacks (Snacks that come in individual packages and are easy to hand out)
     5.     Ready to eat meals that just require water (ex: mac and cheese in a cup, Ramen noodles) 
     6.    Popcorn
     7.     Silverware (plastic spoons and forks)
     8.     Paper bowls

Chemical Health Week

The week of October 27th-31st is Chemical Health Week.  TOMS is joining schools across the country with activities planned to promote a healthy lifestyle to their students.  During Chemical Health Week, we will have a Spirit Week.  We hope to encourage our students to think about living a chemical free life.

8th Grade Washington DC Trip 2014

Over MEA break, several students from both Hidden Oaks and Twin Oaks Middle Schools visited Washington DC.  Students visited many Historical places including, Smithsonian Achieves, Museum of Natural History, National Air & Space Museum, Jefferson Memorial, Martin Luther King Memorial, Newseum, Mount Vernon Virginia, Koran War Memorial, Lincoln Memorial, Vietnam Memorial, White House,  World War II Memorial,  Arlington National Cemetery, Gettysburg Pennsylvania, Shriver House, Air Force Memorial, Ford Theatre, Holocaust Museum, Fort McHenry Baltimore, & Injured Veteran Monument.
